November was a bad month for WAS. ![]() Or maybe, a good, therapeutic month. ![]() It started innocently enough, with the new LMI catalog, and new varieties of walnut. Since I never met a walnut I didn't like, I threw a set of Peruvian in with the next order. ![]() A little flame, a little general walnutiness. Looks good, goes on the stack. With the WAS weakness stoked, I was easy prey for the next Allied weekly baited hook. Two sets of cocobola quickly appeared at my door. ![]() ![]() These tap like glass - I was pretty happy with them. Now in a state of partial defenselessness, the NEXT Allied come-hither worked again, and two sets of Panama Rosewood now sit in the stack. ![]() ![]() All caution has now been thrown to the wind, although I'm still able to suppress the call of the BRW. Can I make it back to normalcy without falling again? NO! Turning to the Zootman's page (what was I thinking?), I see Flamewood. I'm thinking the Flamewood is very pretty. I have a hunch about this Flamewood. One credit card transaction and 2 days later, I have in my hands: ![]() ![]() Can I get a little gushy-sounding at this point? This is the prettiest wood I have ever handled. The play of colors from red to light oranges just dances when you see this up close. It has a wonderful, full, bell-like tap tone. I don't want to put this in the stack, I want to start new guitars today. (Down boy.) I encourage my fellow OLF members to make their way to Bob's zoot cave and buy up the remainder of this. Am I saying this in a sense of selfless sharing? NO! I'm saying it so that there is no chance of me breaking down, going back there tomorrow, and spending the Christmas money ![]() Did I say I liked the Flamewood? While I'm bragging on Bob, here is my own contribution to the extended zoot stash of Black Limba. ![]() Thanks to Bob, the folks at LMI and Allied and all our other wonderful sponsors, and a Happy Thanksgiving to all the OLF brethren. And buy the Flamewood!! Jim |

They are only open from 9-1, but I don't think I can resist!!!! To go see and smell the ZOOT in person.....way too much temptation!!!! |

Holly Kermodie Jim!!!!!!!!! That is a pretty impressive & expensive splurge you had. I'm pretty excited with that flamewood too. It's a SE Asian dalbergia that looks like cocobolo but keeps it's color. Taptone reminds me of Honduran Rosewood. Should make a great guitar. |

I'll be in San Francisco the week of Dec.10th, with nothing to do Monday, LMI mere miles away, and Granadillo on sale. What is this Granadillo anyway? Can questions like this be left unanswered? |

Should make a great guitar.[/QUOTE] I did do a little googling about D. Cochinchinensis. Seems like it's most common name may be Thai Rosewood. Like all Dalbergia's, the sustainability of the population is starting to be a question, but the tree has good range and grows at a wide range of altitudes, and is the main furniture timber in Vietnam (or parts of Vietnam). |

You know Jim...... I could help you out there, and anyone else for that matter. The only real way of curing WAS is to give it away. That's right, GIVE IT AWAY (TO ME, TO ME). Now, I know I'm not a licensed WAS practitioner, but I signed up for an online accreditation course (only $1899) at the university of Buckybo, Alabama and I should get my certificate of completion in the mail in about a week or so. Than I'm good to go, helping out all of my good friends who suffer from WAS so Dreadfully. You got it bad my friend, but fear not, after sending me 3 or 4 nice sets of zoot you'll be well on your way to recovery. |
